april marin

I love, love, love classic custom clothing. April Marin rocks at providing quality custom dresses for women at at affordable prices(as low as $130) I can so see myself at a meeting with one of these fabulous looks. The bonus is that I know that the dress was made to fit perfectly. No more sagging in the middle or too tight fits around the bust and the bottom (I have a womanly shape :-) ) and even better; they have an assortment of fabric and lining colors to choose from. I personally like the grey and pink combo or a classic navy with green; either way you choose your look you’ll definitely have plenty of fun putting it together.

I am really digging my heels in this butter literally. This summer I have had to keep my toe and heel game on lock, all I have been wearing are sandals and more sandals and this has helped me keep my feet looking sandal ready. Bnutured is a totally natural and handmade product and Michelle Lee-King the owner is definitely a fab lady which a great product and philosophy. Check out www.bnurtured.com and grab a few of these sweet smelling treats especially the Peach Sangria my personal fave.

what’s been going on

SavvySocialite.com Family-

I have neglected this site for far to long and I am tired of it. It started back in Nov. when I got a promotion and I had mad work to do to promote the Afro-American Newspapers coverage of Obama and Clintons’ race for the DNC nomination and we had the only journalist representing African-American Newspapers on the campaign bus with Obama during the primaries (Hillary’s camp didn’t reach out) so that took long hours, press releases, marketing, etc. for them and honestly I just could lift another finger to type when I came home. Next came the job opportunity to work with Black America’s most influential voice in radio to work on the redesign and re-launch of his website but, they had a problem with me having my own site. So because I wanted the job I took down my post and got the gig. The problem was that I missed blogging and chatting with readers about things that interest us.  I realized what was important to me and have decided to re-energize my site. I will be posting the stories that have been taken down along with new ones and really would like feedback on what you want from a good website that speaks to our unique voices. Post your comments or send me a holla at liz[at]savvysocialite.com.

Liz

P.S. Thanks mom for putting it in perspective and giving me a friendly reminder of why I started this site. Thanks Dee Dee for reminding me to keep it up that random morning (3am) we chatted (I love Google chat) what you have done with Clutch continues to inspire me.

mac studio mist.

It’s my favorite foundation in the world and believe me I have tired them all. I used to suffer with terrible breakouts and finding a foundation that wouldn’t cause a breakout on my sensitive skin was like finding a needle in a haystack, damn near impossible. That was until I found this product and it has been smooth sailing ever since. No more breakouts, no overly made-up caked on foundation, no need for the extra accessories (sponges) to smooth the look, just a clean 187 duo fibre brush, MAC fix spritz, studio mist foundation and I am on my way to a flawless face perfect for day or night.

Price: $28.50

For more information about this product visit www.maccosmetics.com to locate a store nearest you and to chat with a consultant.

*FYI this product should not be sprayed directly on to your face. Spray the foundation on to the back of your hand then take your 187 brush and whip the foundation onto the brush then buff the foundation into a properly prepped face.

emergency repair.

So my friend and I are getting ready to go out for our typical Friday night but, right as we were walking out the door, the zipper on her favorite D&G jeans (she’s had them since undergrad fall ‘99 and she can still fit them, some chicks…) finally ripped. Anyway, it was too late to go to her house and she clearly couldn’t fit into my pants (I’m a little bit bigger) not to mention everyone else was already there, so we were in a huge bind and using safety pins would be a pain if she went to the bathroom or made the wrong move (if you catch my drift). Then a light bulb came on and I reached for a cute little package of Bristol 6 Stylin’ Tape. I swear we taped her pants together then went out and partied and it stayed (even though she was nervously checking throughout the night to just to make sure). I have got to say that this product is the truth and I strongly recommend it to anyone.

Visit www.bristol6.com for more info about their Stylin’ Tape. Oh and don’t forget to get your Nippies they’re great too just in case you are wearing a top that is not bra optional.

Price: $15 (and worth it!)

have a mango treat when your skin is beat!

mmmmmm…maannnngoes! Sepia Skincare hit the nail on the head with this all natural body souffle, it’s just what a diva needs after a long week of work (hey, Savvy Socialites have 9-5’s, too) and partying. It’s so rich and luxe and the smell is just divine! It’s like giving yourself a spa worthy treatment at home sans the expensive overhead. And did I mention the anti-aging properties of mangoes; this souffle is so worth its price of $32.

spa week is coming!!!!

I can’t wait. $50 spa treatments from some of the best spas in the country April 16th-22nd. The lovely Media Director sent me some splendid info about Spa Week, which was a definite plus and she gave me an inside peek at the list of some of the top spas in the DC/Baltimore metro area participating. The official Spa Week site should be live on March 19th. The biggest plus is that a portion of the proceeds benefit Cancer and Careers ( http://www.cancerandcareers.org/ ), a non-profit organization benefiting working women with cancer. Isn’t that great! You can look good and do good!

visit http://www.spaweek.org/ for more info.

still thinking spring.

CREED - Spring Flower EDP Spray

Okay, so anyone who knows me knows that Spring Flowers by CREED is my favorite scent. It is a little cher if you are used to picking up your perfume at your local TJMaxx bargin bin. But, as a lady you should always have a classic, smart, sophisticated, trademark scent that is distinctly you. Which is why I think this perfume is absolutely brilliant! (via Liz)

save your hands.

Burt's Bees - Shea Butter Hand Repair Creme

I always get compliments on the softness of my hands, which always surprises me. I guess I always thought that it was inherent for ladies to have soft hands. Apparently this isn’t the case. There are a lot of you ladies walking around with two pieces of sandpaper disguised as hands. Because of this I have decided to share my secret with some of you ashy hand bandits :-) .

I swear by this product and most of Burt’s Bees other products. The secret is simple every time you wash your hand place a small dollop in your hand while they are slightly damp and rub them until they are dry. That was simple, now do it and kill the sandpaper.

Enjoy,

Liz

all dressed up.

Another event always brings an onslaught of nervousness and jitters. I mean, I do have a reputation to maintain which requires that I have the perfect dress, shoes, hair and make-up done professionally, correct undergarments,  cocktail purse, and overcoat (if it’s in the winter or the fall). I can usually manage this amount of stress but, now my mom will be in town which means that my selections better be up to par or else I’ll be digging around my closet in the ninth hour trying to find something that won’t garnish her faint wain of disappointment which usally sounds like,  “Are you sure that dress isn’t sending the wrong message, like easy?”

Well, this time will be different. I think she would find that my choices are just right for the occassion with no need to comment.

The dress.

I think this dress is cute and flattering for my figure (I am a little hippy). It’s sexy and glamorous but, not too much and even better it doesn’t scream cheap. Price $159. Visit www.groupusa.com for more info.

The shoes.

I know you’ve seen this shoe 100’s of times but, it is a classic evening sandal which means you can wear it with anything for as long as you have feet. This shoe is also sooooo comfortable, Stuart Weitzman’s “Cuando” is a little on the cher side but, it is worth it. Price $375. Visit  www.nordstrom.com to get yourself a pair.

The undergarments.

We have all seen a women with a gorgeous gown on but, something looks off; like her bra maybe and it makes the dress look sloppy and cheap. Personally, I like my breast to look “neat” underneath my evening gowns and truth be told most of the bras that are out do nothing to enhance your breast when you are in your finest evening attire which makes a lot of women think they should go braless or wear something that gives you that weird four boob shape. But, as you guessed yours truly uses Intimates Nordstrom Nu Bra. I swear by these things. They are the best when you need support for your backless gowns and they have sizes going from A to D. Price $65.00

My lifesaver, Donna Karen level one “waist embrace” body shaper. Clearly those holiday fetes have caught up with me in all the wrong places and that Bally’s membership still has dust on it. So a body shaper like this is the closest thing I can get to lipo. Price $40

I definitely don’t want anything that is holding me together shown to anyone tonight so I plan to keep myself together using Hollywood Fashion Tape “red carpet” Assortment. I have been using this stuff for almost ten years and it has never let me or my dress down. Price $8.95.

All items at www.nordstrom.com

The hair.

As usually I only trust my tresses to Leucretia at Steppin’ Out Hair Studio’s but, this event was last minute and starts at 5pm and I know there is no way in hell I’ll make it out of there with her Saturday client list already packed to the seams. Which is why every lady needs a little lacefront in their life. Check out www.zarawigs.com. They have some of the best lacefronts I’ve seen online.

The makeup.

I only trust my makeup to Frankie at the Georgetown MAC store. It’s always just right and never over the top. She creates my evening look perfectly, and it stays fresh for hours so I don’t look like a grease ball when I am taking pictures.

Price $50. visit www.maccosmetics.com for more info.

Okay so now you know what I am wearing but, now I have to get started.

See ya tonight,

Liz
