forth & towne out of business sale!!!

If you don’t know already Gap Inc.’s Forth & Towne stores will be closing at the end of June (sigh), which blows because I actually liked the store. Forth & Towne was like Harold’s/Ann Taylor/Banana Republic/White House Black Market; mashed into one great store that provided me with work and play essentials.

I remember like it was yesterday, going to New York City and finding this oasis that kept me step ahead of my co-workers hum-drum wardrobe but, not to bold as to isolate senior management. Ah yes, you were perfect; too bad they didn’t market you correctly or place you in better markets to reach your targets (I mean really; why were there no Forth & Towne stores in the DC Metro area??? Who was the genius in the meeting who suggested not having some stores here?). I will definitely miss Forth & Towne but, I think I will be able to get over it considering how the stores are having serious sales (up to 60%) to clear out the merchandise (yippie!!!!!!!!!) and because Forth & Towne focused on classics this is a sale one can ill afford to miss. So, Ladies if you are in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle fire up the AMEX and head to your nearest store to stock up on some summer classics before they officially close their doors at the end of June.

Good Bye Forth & Towne, you will be missed.

Visit www.forthandtowne.com for info about the store closing and sales.

oh, mitzi.

I was doing my normal perusal of sites online (when I really should get started actually doing work) when I stumbled upon Mitzi Baker’s online store. The leather handbags are supple and chic, the earrings and necklaces give you just enough glam without being ostentatious (sorry Savvy Socialites don’t do gaudy…well maybe on occasion). The items I saw are absolutely perfect for a quick getaway if you are into “effortless chic” and neat enough for a breezy day with friends by the harbor or the bay.

(The Pete Kimono $128, Tracy Matthews Gold Moroccan earrings $178, The Clutch $195 (the white is sold out now)). Visit www.mitzibaker.com for more info.

spa week is here!!!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It’s official!!!!!! Spa Week is finally here!
Who doesn’t need $50 spa treatments from some of the top spas across the country? Ummm… looks like no hands went up for that one. Well then, I guess we all can agree that $50 bucks for a spa treatment is definitely doable. So, for one fabulous week you’ll have the opportunity to check out that spa that you’ve been hearing all the hype about but, didn’t want to pay $200 and have a “spa treatment gone wild” experience (we’ve all seen what happened to Gina on “Martin”- damn that avacado!!!). But, for $50 bucks and the creme de la creme of spas working their magic on your winter worn (and in some cities spring) body, why not give it a try! While you are lying down and letting Hans’s fingers do the talking think of all good you will be doing for www.cancerandcareers.org seeing how proceeds from Spa Weekare donated to help those who have cancer but, don’t have the luxury of not working while they are fighting this disease. See doing good and looking good that’s what us Savvy Socialites are all about. Plus, last time I checked we all were a little overdue for a recharge to get us prepared for the summer.

Visit www.SpaWeek.org to get a listing of participating spas in your city!

emergency repair.

So my friend and I are getting ready to go out for our typical Friday night but, right as we were walking out the door, the zipper on her favorite D&G jeans (she’s had them since undergrad fall ‘99 and she can still fit them, some chicks…) finally ripped. Anyway, it was too late to go to her house and she clearly couldn’t fit into my pants (I’m a little bit bigger) not to mention everyone else was already there, so we were in a huge bind and using safety pins would be a pain if she went to the bathroom or made the wrong move (if you catch my drift). Then a light bulb came on and I reached for a cute little package of Bristol 6 Stylin’ Tape. I swear we taped her pants together then went out and partied and it stayed (even though she was nervously checking throughout the night to just to make sure). I have got to say that this product is the truth and I strongly recommend it to anyone.

Visit www.bristol6.com for more info about their Stylin’ Tape. Oh and don’t forget to get your Nippies they’re great too just in case you are wearing a top that is not bra optional.

Price: $15 (and worth it!)

have a mango treat when your skin is beat!

mmmmmm…maannnngoes! Sepia Skincare hit the nail on the head with this all natural body souffle, it’s just what a diva needs after a long week of work (hey, Savvy Socialites have 9-5’s, too) and partying. It’s so rich and luxe and the smell is just divine! It’s like giving yourself a spa worthy treatment at home sans the expensive overhead. And did I mention the anti-aging properties of mangoes; this souffle is so worth its price of $32.

laptops need luxe too.

Hair. Steppin’ Out Hair Studio.

Makeup. M.A.C.

Outfit. Diane.

Shoes. Jimmy.

Handbag. Botkier.

Laptop Bag. uhhhh, laptop bag??!??!!

Don’t you just hate having the perfect work look ruined because of a less than perfect choice in a laptop bag. I mean do we really want to lug around a bulky, cumbersome, ergonomically correct but, visually offensive, bag of any type let alone one that is a necessity.

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know they think that function is more important than fashion but, true savvynista’s (yes, I just made that up) believe in having their cake and eating it, too. So, imagine my surprise when I find this fabulous designer on esty.com that understands that fashion + function = fabulous.

Flicka Bags, are ergonomically correct laptop sleeves, that are waterproof, and customizable to fit your specific laptop, with or without straps and handles. They are also compact enough to be used in your messenger, briefcase, backpack, or my favorite, alone (what can I say, I like to show off my creative side).

Check out some of my favorites:

(from the top: Cabana, Lime Twist, MOMA, Kaleidoscope, Cinnamon Twist, and Evangelia)

These bags will definitely set you apart from the sea of boring black bags and the best part is that these bags are priced between $40 and $50, I am soooooo getting them!

For more information on Flicka, checkout www.flickaalice.etsy.com.

50 million pound challege.

Dr. Ian Smith and State Farm Insurance have teamed up to launch a two year campaign aimed at decreasing obesity in the African American community and increasing the embrace of a healthier lifestyle.

They will be holding the kick-off of this campaign April 7, 2007 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. from 11- 3pm.

Now, this event gets even better. Dr. Ian Smith is not coming by himself, because he knows we truly would be bored, so he has enlisted an awesome group of performers Steve Harvey, Mary J. Blige, Patti LaBelle, Yolanda Adams, Omarion, Kelly Price, Ashford and Simpson, and Michael Strahan (of course, Dr. Ian’s best friend) So, not only can we get enthused about losing weight and living healthier we can enjoy fabulous performances for free!!!!!!!!!!
