nordstrom rack attack!!!!

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies. Nordstrom Rack is having a serious sale!!! I just purchased over $1200 worth of shoes for only $125, no lie. I mean Cole Haan Collection shoes retailing at $325 for only $25, and this seasons Via Spiga’s for only $34. My sister and I lost our minds in that store. I swear the sales associates in the shoe department thought we were crazy;they couldn’t believe all the shoes we had (I only bought seven pair-sheeesh!).

The brands that were on sale for 35-75% off already reduced prices are; Via Spiga, 58 Boutique, Cole Haan, Hype, Joan & David, Michael Kors, Stuart Weitzman, Marc Jacobs, Anne Klein, Coach, Prada, Bruno Maglia, and countless other salon shoes. Shoes from the Rack.I can’t wait to show them off with my pedicure. Oh and the plus is that they have shoes (cute ones) in sizes 5 to 12 for women.

Here is a picture of some of the shoes that I purchased. I wish I could take better pictures so you all could see the heels on some of these shoes. Oh, and the loafer styled pump with the tassels is definitely a work shoe.Click here to find the nearest one to you!

how divas do dishes.

Whoever said that housework wasn’t meant to be glamorous, obviously never met a Savvy Socialite.

As you very well know, none of us revel in the idea of manual labor and we would rather call Merry Maids before sweating out our hair and breaking a nail trying to scrub out the details of last nights dinner. I know you’re only putting them into the dishwasher but, why not do that with an over the top fabness that only a true diva would love.

My Grandmother Liz always said, “Why waste time cleaning, when you have important things to attend to my dear.”; which is why she’s always hired help. But, maybe if Grandmother Liz had these cute gloves she might have spent a little time actually washing dishes or in her case, looking cute pretending. I mean it’s a full-time job in itself staying at the top, so why not maintain your diva status while busting a little suds?

So, ahead and toss out those big yellow galosh-like dish gloves (that’s no way for your hands to be seen my dear) and protect your manicure while preserving your sexy.

For more information about these designer dish gloves and other cute items for home, visit www.thespoonsisters.com .

guess who bizack!!!

Okay so I shouldn’t have stay away with out leaving a message, so I am sorry; that was a little tacky but, today I am back!!!!

During my hiatus I was able to get some very important things done; One being the new newsletter design. I had 3 created and now its time to figure out which one is the winner. Two is that I have been able to attend some very important seminars and I was able to get some advertisers!!!!! Three I’ve had the opportunity to chat with some fabulous designers and get a sneak peak at the fall lines. So, as you can see I haven’t been a complete slacker. But, enough about me let’s get to the business.

This weekend the play Bachelorette Party comes to D.C. at the Warner Theatre. I’ve heard pretty good things about the play so I will be checking it out with my girls on Saturday. After the play finishes its DC run it will be heading south to Jacksonville, FL. I hope we all can check it out!

Oh, and get your tickets via Ticketmaster because the other sites are scams. One site had the ticket price at $88, yes I’m serious while Ticketmaster had the same ticket for $45; so not savvy!

my brother the movie.

I saw this movie a few weeks ago with the cast of the film for the D.C. premier and interviewed the cast, director, and producer and it was great. Everyone involved in the Special Olympics was there as well; they where even able to get the Shrivers’ out for a rare photo op.

I was so moved by this movie and the acting by the two intellectually disabled actors (the first time in a major motion film were they used real actors that were ID). Vanessa Williams was outstanding as usual and such a lady and the cast was amazing . Unfortunately , the  director mention to me that he has had little to no support from Hollywood  backing this film, which is so not cool.

Movies like this come out every once in a blue moon. It tells a  real story of a dying single mother raising two sons in New York City, one intellectually disabled and one carrying the burden of being his caretaker. It’s gritty, it’s loving, it’s warm, and great film for the family, church group, sorority, school, volunteer organization, and etc.; the movie actually made me want to start volunteering again for the Special Olympics(yes, your Savvy Socialite used to volunteer with the Therapeutic Riding Center, teaching intellectually challenged students how to ride horses).

I really encourage everyone who wants to see a really good movie with a purpose to check this film out this weekend March 16th, 2007 in select cities so more movies like this one can be created and supported by the mainstream. If you want more info check out, www.mybrotherthemovie.com, www.myspace.com/mybrotherthemovie

okay, okay, you asked for it… rip the runway

Alright, alright so I went to the taping of Rip the Runway last week and did some red carpet interviews; I was not impressed. BET did a good job over all but; the typical urban D-list semi-celebs were definitely in the building. I wish I could say it was classy but, I can’t. It looked as if it had the intent on being that way but, the guest list thought that it was their opportunity to “rip the runway”.

So you want to know who was there? What clothing lines,  and if they really look good in person? Your Savvy Socialite will answer these questions….

Who was there?

  1. Nelly- looks good in-person even though he wasn’t even wearing his own crap passing as a clothing line.
  2. Jermaine Dupri- short, still scary
  3. Deelishis/London Charles/ the chick from Flava of Love- polite, lacefront game needs to step up
  4. Her @ss- larger than what was on T.V.; could use a little excersise.
  5. Jim Jones- still unattractive, wish he could look clean for once.
  6. 50-cents- yawn.
  7. ANTM chicks- see below.
  8. Ciara- fabulous!!
  9. Chris Brown- still for the kids.
  10. Tre Songs- looks the same, yawn.
  11. Big Tigga- needs a den.
  12. Terrence J- the s-curl is played.
  13. Rosci- *snoring*
  14. Julissa- zzzzzzzzz…zzzzz.
  15. Steve Harvey- classic.
  16. Russell Simmons- cool; still looks the same; I wish Kimora was there.
  17. Tyrese- ummm, he’s alright his teeth look great.
  18. Brooke Hogan- WTF!!?! no real purpose other thanto show that she’s “down”
  19. Lloyd- still not feeling him but, love the song.
  20. Jason Alexander- *scratching my head*
  21. Clinton Portis- zzzzz; how many times do we have to see him? CP is so old news.
  22. Rich Boy- yuck; love the song
  23. Mims- why is he hot?
  24. Musiq- definitely looks the same; excellent job.
  25. Angela and Vanessa Simmons- they are so cute, they remind me of me and my sis.
  26. Paul Wall- *scratching my head* but, he has love for the sistas.
  27. Big Gip- wow. WTF!?!
  28. Ali- …zzzzzz…
  29. Rakim- not a fan of his smoked out purple lips
  30. June Ambrose- all ways on time with her look
  31. Chris Robinson- the usual
  32. All the other semi-celebs- “wait a minute you said your name was what again?”.

What clothing lines?

  1. Applebottoms*
  2. G-Unit*
  3. Steve Harvey collection
  4. Jordan Brand
  5. LRG*
  6. Monif. C.
  7. Amaya Swimwear
  8. Mychael Knight

*Found at your local Goody’s clearance rack or at your local over priced Urban clothing store.

Ciara and Chris Brown did an excellent job hosting the event even though at times I couldn’t really hear what they were saying (damn that VIP!!). Ciara’s outfits execept for that little bolero, were cute and I definitely want a lacefront like hers when I grow up. Chris Brown was his usual popish self.

Anyway, there are several lights at the end of this tunnel, expect to see your favorite ANTM’s (Bre (cute but, some thing was missing), Dani (loving her look, very chic), Toccara (her outfits were hot, I wish her stylist could have dressed the rest of them), Nik (looked crazy as hell, like a lost deer), and dare I say it -Jade (yuck)) modeled some very sexy swimwear by Amaya (loves it!) this Savvy Socialite is actually the designer, She had some very hot items that I am sooo ordering right now.

Monif C. did her thing for the plus size fashionista (I found myself asking if I could get it a few things in a 6 (i’m still holding on to hope) or an 8 (but, these damn hips keep catching me!!).

I was terribly disappointed in Mychael Knight’s collection, it looked like something I had seen before but, where? Ahhh yes, Christian Lacroix, and Michael Kors spring line; no points for originality, and that tacky neon lime green/black/white/ color scheme left a lot to be desired, instead of couture I was thinking Baby Phat, but maybe that is why he didn’t win ”Project Runway”.

Steve Harvey was fabulous, he is very attractive in person. His suits… not so much. But, if you are into men’s suits that look a little “zootish”, his line would be perfect. The whole time I watched it all I could think about was my Bama-fied cousins getting ‘fly’. There was a bonus though Musiq Soulchild performed during the presentation of his collection, and the men modeling were excellent eye candy if, only they had Darren Sharper and some other NFL hotties model I could have overlooked everything else.

I can’t really say anything else about the show because it wouldn’t be nice. You saw the list above of the “other” clothing lines, most of which you will probably be able to find at your local TJMaxx Junior’s department on the Clearance rack.

Overall the show was what’s to be expected for urban designers, I would tune in tonight for S’s&G’s if i hadn’t seen it already.

Stay Savvy,

Liz

busy as me.

Okay, now I am really back (yeah, I know it was like two days ago) but, I was so busy trying to figure out what to do about the newsletter, entertain my guest, clean up my place before my parents come up to visit, picking the perfect business card (yes, I am obsessed with branding) , and moving to the new condo (ahhhhhh!!!!).

Despite my typical weekend drama I managed to get the newsletter back in business which was my number one priority, so expect to get a fresh dose of the SavvySocialite’s newsletter on Tuesdays and Thursdays highlighting some of the best finds online and in the area. So if you haven’t subscribed to the free newsletter click here.
As for everything else I’m still cleaning (I hate it!!!); the business cards looked fab but, I will see if they are perfect when they arrive; and I haven’t even begun packing.

Stay Savvy,

Liz :-*
